Gillette Awards Project Hope With Homelessness Prevention Grant
September 11, 2006

Gillette officials announced a $100,000 grant to Project Hope earmarked for homelessness prevention at an event held at Project Hope on September 11, 2006.

The Gillette Company announced a total of $420,00 awarded to six Boston non-profit agencies at an event on September 11, 2006 at Project Hope's newly constructed Community Building.  Mayor Thomas M. Menino attended along with State Senator Jack Hart and State Representative Marie St. Fleur.

Along with Project Hope, Horizons for Homeless Children, Family to Family, Traveler's Aid Family Services, Roxbury Multi-Service Center, and Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless all received awards.

As a result of this grant, families in this low-income community of 22,000 people will receive the supports they need to stabilize their housing situations.  Emergency stipends that cover back rent, utility arrearages or related emergencies are often all that is needed to keep a family in their own home.  Gillette's grant is recognition of how important it is to invest in families to help them avoid homelessness.  Project Hope's Housing Services Department assisted 390 families last year.
