When Nilaya Montalvo first became homeless, she was quick to blame herself. When she arrived at Project Hope's Family Shelter, she felt like, somehow, she'd personally failed.
However, as months passed and Nilaya was continually unable to access affordable housing, she began to see systematic problems that were contributing to a housing crisis. This is a story about how Nilaya began to learn about some of the larger causes of family homelessness and what she is doing today to help shape a new way forward.
